First let me say that microblogging is a broad classification for many blogging tools. Twitter can even be considered microblogging. It’s more or less the practice of stripping down blogging to be less formal with shorter amounts of text.
I really got interesting in microblogging when I found Tumblr. I love being able to quickly post my random thoughts without having the constraints of having to always fully think out all of the aspects of my post. Sure it might leave something to be desired for some but I take the mentality its better to get it out there than not at all.
So now that you know what microblogging is and why I love it it’s time to see all the new players. In the last few months there have been a ton that have joined the game. Such as:
and more..
Why are we seeing all of these new “blogging” platforms? I think that simply most people have found that they don’t have enough time to keep up with a full blown blog. I know that I am one of those people. However I do have time to make many smaller posts most of them from my iPhone.
That is another thing many of these new services are catering more toward the mobile users. I love being able to send an email from my phone of a picture with some text and having it post automagically to your blog. Sure that might be dangerous because you could easily post drunken photos but I guess you need to make sure you are listening to your gut.
Bottom line here is that I think there is still room for another player to either do it better or do a whole new take on blogging. I look at it like I do a quality car. There are tons of cars out there. They all get you from A to B. But what sets an Audi apart from a Kia is paying attention to the fine details.
